T. andreana (Small)

The Tillandsia andreana has a dark round base, and leaves that are a silver color at the bottom, then fade into a light green color towards the tips of each leaf blade. The elongated leaves are tall, straight, and very thin. Some of the blades droop downwards, while others manage to remain upright. But you may be surprised to find out that this species has a very rare characteristic. Compared to the typical violet flowers that most species produce, what pops out amongst this plant’s numerous fine leaves, are flowers that are instead a very vibrant fiery red to orange color, and sometimes even some of its leaves fade into a soft shade of orange. The focal point of this plant is definitely its flower because even though it remains behind the crowded leaves it is definitely the first thing that people will notice.
